Many people ask me if blown in insulation is bad. Many people ask this because much of it was (and still is) cellulose - which basically means ground up paper.
Most people ask this because it seems counter-intuitive to have paper laying around the attic. What about fires or wood destroying insects.
Most cellulose insulation has fire retarders put into it by codes and regulations. For the vast majority of people that means you are perfectly fine. That's the same for wood destroying insects too.
The only issue I have with it is how messy it gets when I crawl around those attics :)
