In this month's home inspection picture, we see corrosion on the solder joints of some copper pipes. Most of the time it seems that people let this get to the point of leaking before they ever repair them. A few hours and some fresh solder can prevent these from becoming leaks in the first place.

In this month's home inspection picture we see the crown of a chimney with a crack in it. These cracks are generally minor, but should be sealed and repaired to prevent moisture intrusion and further damage.
None of us ever want to think about it - a dryer fire. Dryer fires are becoming more and more common it seems. In fact, by several estimates, there are over 1,200 dryer fires each year, causing many deaths and millions of dollars in property damage. In spite of this, a dryer fire is actually something that can be prevented in many cases. Here are a few small steps that you can take to help protect your family from dryer fires.

Denim insulation is a product that is becoming more and more popular every year. But what is denim insulation? It is very basic: Denim insulation is recycled denim products such as pants, jackets, and other products. Each roll of denim insulation contains about 85% recycled products, which makes it very "Green". So Why should you consider using denim insulation? Here are just a few reasons: Great Acoustics - The acoustic rating of denim insulation is about 30% higher than its fiberglass counterpart. Want a quieter home? Denim insulation may be the product for you.
Healthy - Denim insulation generally has no/low VOC and does not have the same itchiness that fiberglass insulation has Great R-Value - It keeps your home warmer and helps save on energy. There is a down side though... cost. Denim insulation costs nearly twice as much as traditional fiberglass insulation. If the benefits outweigh the cost in your case, then denim insulation is a great product for you. Questions? Contact me Here in this month's home inspection pictures we see two items. First, we see a cracked slab. This slab was not structurally defective, it just didn't have any relief cuts in it. The second picture is a gas supply to a water heater without a drip leg or a black pipe extension. Home Inspections - They are an important step in the purchase of a home. Many people still skip this vital step though. When there is more than one offer on a home, many people offer to waive the home inspection contingency to make their offer seem more appealing. But is that wise? Any reasoning person would answer "no" to that question, but in the heat of a bidding war it may seem logical. Imagine that you are purchasing a house that looks immaculate for $200,000. You waive the home inspection to out bid another buyer. You may have purchased that home at the very top of what you can afford. Now after you move in you discover many issues that could have been resolved. If those issues cost, let's say, $10,000. What did you actually pay for the home? $210,000? Not even that. Factor in the time, stress, and other issues fixing the problems and it cost a lot more. S in short, a home inspection is extremely important. So make sure you not only get a home inspection, but hire a seasoned home inspector who will work hard for you. Questions? Contact me and I will be happy to help! Termites in GA are a real concern. They cause millions of dollars of damage every year, and many new home owners get caught in a tough spot. Before you buy a home, make sure you have a qualified pest inspector fully inspect your home to help prevent any of these issues.
A common mistake that even some experienced termite inspectors make is identifying termite damage as carpenter ant damage. The treatment for those two insects are very different though, so proper identification is important. Notice the picture of the termite damage below. See the packed in "frass" in the tunnels. This is a hallmark of termites, as carpenter ants keep their tunnels clean. Questions? Contact me! |
